About the talk:
This workshop features three scholar-activists from the
Institute for Critical Animal Studies (Oceania) who will give some anarchist
critiques of the campaign against live export and explore some possibilities
for more anarchist-oriented animal advocacy. Despite live export dominating
discussions about animals in Australia, there are a number of problems with
this campaign, including its state-centric nature, the nationalistic and even
racist messages within it, and its failure to challenge animal slaughter in
Australia. These critiques and more will be discussed as a starting point to
explore with the participants in an interactive way the possibilities for
anarchist thought to inspire animal advocacy and for greater connections
between anarchists and the animal advocacy movement generally.
